The Quantum Science and Technology Branch of the DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory (ARL) requires ten (10) signal generator extension modules, comprised of five (5) standard extension modules and five (5) modular extensions, to cover a wide portion of the millimeter-wave (mmWave) spectrum.
Each standard module shall have the following characteristics:
- The signal generator extension modules shall be compatible with the Keysight E8257D signal generator
- Capable of being driven from a standard microwave signal generator with an output of up to 20 gigahertz (GHz) or a standard microwave signal generator with an output of up to 40 GHz
- Have the ability to attenuate its output power based on an analog voltage control signal
- Have controllable ON/OFF output via an external digital control signal with a modulation rate of at least one (1) megahertz (MHz). Faster ON/OFF modulation times are preferred, down to ten (10) nanoseconds (ns)
- mmWave output is via a standard waveguide flange
Each modular extension shall have the following characteristics:
- Have a waveguide input that is compatible with two (2) of the standard modules
- Ability to draw power from the standard module
The combined modules shall cover the following frequency ranges with the minimum power output specified.
- 40-125 GHz: +15 decibel milliwatts (dBm)
- 140-370 GHz: +5 dBm
- 370-500 GHz: -6 dBm
- 500-750 GHz: -13 dBm
- 750-1100 GHz: -16 dBm
Modules can be cascaded to provide the required coverage and power output, but there must be five (5) base modules driven from standard microwave signal generators to simultaneously produce a frequency from each of the following ranges: 40-60 GHz, 60-90 GHz, 82-125 GHz, 140-220 GHz, and 170-1100 GHz. The complete system shall be able to simultaneously produce two (2) frequencies within the 170-1100 GHz range.
The complete system shall have the following characteristics:
- A detatchable manual waveguide attenuator for each waveguide output that shall provide between 0-30 decibles of attenuation
- Horn antennas for each waveguide output that shall have a directionsl gain of at least ten (10) decibles over isotropic
Delivery shall be included FOB Destination within sixteen (16) weeks After Contract Award (ACA) to the following location:
