Qiagen LLC is the only vendor/manufacturer that can provide the reagent kits and consumables used to isolate DNA and RNA from various cell populations from peripheral blood of stem cell transplant patients or patients with hematological disorder and are specifically used with already existing instrumentation within The Department of Laboratory Medicine of the Clinical Center. The testing done using these reagents is for basic clinical care, research, and advancing the science and applications associated with diagnostic analysis of hematological disorders such as Myeloproliforative diseases and Chimerism monitoring after Allogenic Stem Cell transplant. These reagents have been fully validated for use in BCR-ABL fusion assay and JAK2 mutation assay. Switching to another system would entail lengthy validations and would alter current results of NIH protocols.
