Allegany County Economic and Community Development (ECD) seeks to identify a firm to develop a comprehensive, multimodal transportation study and subsequent recommendations to take, in order to expand local transit options for all residents. In working with our local partners representing tourism, education and health and human services, it is clear that Allegany County’s current fixed route bus system is inadequate in meeting the needs of all local stakeholders.
ECD sees the transformation of local public transit from a “necessity for a few to an option for all” as an economic driver in attracting and maintaining a qualified workforce. As a rural community with urbanized clusters, properly covering all areas is a challenge. Common issues regarding lack of transportation options include workers not making shifts, non-emergency medical care appointments missed, university students unable to properly engage with local communities, visitors unable to connect with downtowns and residents unable to enjoy amenities without a car.
